October 16th
Friday
Mrs. Carmicheal called to pay for making
her dress and brought an orange for each of
the inmates. that she hoped by Gods help to be
a better wife to him - she has signed the pledge
of Temperance and intended to keep it too.

Saturday 17th
Mrs Baines (formerly the naughty
and troublesome Rebecca Cooper) called
yesterday, said she was so happy that her
Father, Mother, Grandma and all were
friendly. and her husband was [underlined]all[underlined] she could wish.
I ask. how she spent her time, she said, I do a little
house work & sewing. could you not take in
a little work such as you did before you were
married? "O no, for Johny wont let me, I asked
him once and he said 'go and buy yourself
a new dress and sit down and make it, and
that will be something for you to do.'
I invited her to call next teusday [tuesday] to
see the ladies and shew [show] her marriage
lines. I asked her if they had family worship"
morning and evening. she said yes. that they read
in the Bible every other verse sang a hymn &c.
