July 25
Saturday.
Started 1/2 past 6 oclk with messenger to Central
market & purchased vegetables for the week. 5/-
Emma Tompkins has learnt "The Mothers' last words"
(by Mrs. Sewell) after our little service, conducted
by Mr. H. Hossack. she repeated it. she has a wonderfull [wonderful] memory. which we have endeavored to get stored with what is edifying and usefull.[useful]

Sabbath 26th
Revd W. Mills preached 11 o clk.
Mr. Lee gave an address in the eveg. Mr. Gully brought
Jane McPherson from the breakfast meeting. but she smelt so
strong of drink, I refused to take her, without Mrs. Goodlets leave.
Mary Sutton brought a note from Mrs. T. Smith requestiong
admittance. she came whilst 8oclk [previous two words deleted] during Mr Lee's address. at 8 oclk.

Monday 27th
Eliza Ash is much better. the poor thing
does all in her power to please and is very
anxious to stay with us. and often tells me
how thankfull [thankful] she feels to the ladies for such a
home.

Teusday [tuesday] 28th
Sub comt. met 5 ladies present.
Jane McPherson was dismissed. M.A. Burns and
Mary Sutton received. I received permission to
distribute 16 striped skirts and jackets.
I went by request of the Ladies to Capt. McLerie's
to ask the loan of a Sythe [scythe]. I was told we were welcome
to use it, but when the groom brought it, we found
it was quite useless, so rusty and broken.
A B Armstrong & Liddell held a Temperance Meeting.
