May 8th Friday
About 1/2 past 12 oclk last night
we were called up by a police man
telling us, the gate was open.
I found on enquiry that three (Mary McAveny, Sopha Collins
and Charlotte Linden) had gone. I went directly to the
station with their names and afterwards an a/c't
of what they had stolen. Mr Roberts went with a
policeman [to] in search of them. Maria Hadnett and Louisa Kerrigan
staid [stayed] up with me, untill [until] he returned at 3 oclk
in the morning, he was cold and wet there had been
a heavy shower whilst he was out.

Saturday 9th
Eliz'th Logan was taken by Mrs. Talbot to
her situation this aftern'n. I promised to
send her outfit [sup]to[sup] Mrs Talbot as I could not go out to
purchase it this week, there being no one to leave in charge.
Jane Drew called and said she liked her place
very much that she had [sup]^made[sup] up her mind to
[underlined]work[underlined] and try to please her employers.
Sarah Firmington is much better, and able to work
again. Received payment for S. S. "Motaura"
washing £35.3.9

No tidings of the three, that escaped, and I can not go
myself to look for them as theres no one to leave in
charge.
