August 23rd
Ann Scanlan suffers greatly with a
gathering in a finger. the inflammation is
going up her arm. she is not able to work.

Friday 24th
Mrs. Roberts visited a man [sup] that [end sup] Kate Cagill said
"wanted to marry her," but found there was no
truth in it. he said "had got the - - through her
and it cost him £7 -- for the Doctor, no, he would
never marry her."

Saturday 25th
Received a letter enclosing 10/6 from Mr. Driscol
Newcastle to pay Kate Cagills passage thereto, and as
she was determined to go out, we were glad to
send her today out of town. when she had but
such a bad life.

Sabbath
Matron took Deborah Hardcastle to church in the
morn'g. Mr. Curtis preached to the inmates at 11 oclk
and also in the eve'g. Deborah went in
eve'g to church with Miss Galbraith-

Monday 27th
Matron took Kate Cagill to the Newcastle
steamer [sup] start 7 oclk morn'g [end sup] - paid her passaged - and asked the cap't
if he would see after her. he kindly said he would.

Tuesday 27th
Received a note from Mr. Hill about the 'Rakaia'
washing, saying that drays would be sent for it
and there w'd be 200 pieces mon to be ready by thursday.
At 1/2 past 2 o clk three drays were brought to take
the whole away.
Deborah seems thankfull for what has been done
for her, and when advised bid to trust in her own
strength said "I do pray with all my heart - and I
