April 27th
Friday
R. W Bannister was invited to give a
temperance lecture to the inmates, with
which they all seemed pleased - & 15 signed the
pledge. Several of them recited temperance
songs which they had learnt out of the
little books he had sent them -
Mr. Moon ("Botanical Gardens" (by request) sent
a [underlined] a dray [end underlined] with [underlined] flowers [end underlined]
& evergreens to deck their room with. all were allowed to
leave off work at 4oclk and as many
as [underlined] liked to help [end underlined] with the decorations
were invited to do so. we had a plain cake
5/ worth of apples - the walls so white, and so
gay with flowers, and all seemed happy.

Saturday 28th
Last nights heat has had a
beneficial effect upon this
'large family' they are so cheerfull [cheerful]
and go about their work with a will
Mr. Bannister said he never felt so overcome
in a meeting in his life before, when he first
went into the din'g room he was full of pity
and sympathy at seeing so many fallen sisters
but long before he went away - he was astonished
and pleased to witness their uniform good
conduct, and surprized [surprised]to hear them sing
so well.
