Tuesday
Eliz'th Carter, aged 16 yrs brought
in by her Mother, who has "together with her
father been searching the town for their lost
and wicked daughter at all hours of the
night for the last [underlined] three weeks." [end underlined] she is the
eldest of six children, and has been more
trouble than all the rest, as the Mother left
she said - "May God tender her heart, and make
this place a blessing to her." When told to come
to see the Ladies, this afternoon, she asked if
they would excuse her coming untill next week
as she felt so ill with sorrow and want of slee"

A Man called and said he believed we had two little
girls of his, named Eliza & Ester Beace, he was
told that we had only one now, as Eliza had been sent
to a respectable situation. I asked if he was prepared
to take Ester out, he said, no, he had come from
Newcastle to try and get work, if he got any he
would do his best for her, but he would like best
of all if she might stay were she was, he was told that
the Comm't would expect him to pay towards her
maintenance, that it was very wrong of him to forsake
two such young girls, they might have been ruined-

Wednesday 28th
Ellen Holmes was very ill, sent her to bed and ordered
some gruel as I think she got cold, this wet morn!
Mr Tho's Roberts visited Mary Ann Davies, and got
her to come in the refuge.
She has lived with Mr. Blake, Barrister for seven or
eight years, in sin (his own wife put away) she says
she did not know he was a married man when he
first seduced her, she has a son 5 years old by Mr. Blake.
