37 in number. all in health. and quiet.

Wednesday Mary Hopkins & Charlotte Perry escaped over
24 the cottage, the latter leaving behind, the Refuge
dress on the roof. poor little Charlotte, she has
often promised to try to be a good girl - then she
elapses into her naughty wicked ways, today
she was worse than usual, she is a dreadfull [dreadful]
swearer,

Thursday Christina has been naughty and asked
25th repeatedly to "go out" When put to iron, she
spoiled the little frocks and they had to be rewashed.
afterwards she said, she was sorry for making
me "so miserable," and [sup]"would[end sup] try to do better,"

After breakfast Mary Hopkins and Charlotte Perry were
loitering about the gate when asked what they wanted
said they came for their own clothes, asked them in and
locked them up in the cottage untill [until]we can decide
what to do with them.

Friday Miss Galbraith went to tell M. Hopkin's parents
26th what a bad girl she was, and to see what they would
do for her, her grandmother was too feeble to come
the father so angry that he would not.
The Mother (a Catholic) so near her confinment
she could not venture out, so although their poor
erring child (that is only 14 years old) must be left to
the mercy of [underlined] Protestant [end underlined] strangers, although they are in comfortable in circumstances, living
in their own house, and they were told she would
be kept locked up untill [until] they came for her.
