Dec 26th
Tuesday. Being Boxing day the inmates were
promised a half holiday. after washing
the officers and their own clothes, and scrubb'g [scrubbing]
out their bedrooms. Christina is very naughty
talking about "bussboys" Polly Hopins having hold her
they get about - 15/ pr week - she then said "thats not
enough for [underlined] me [end underlined] I'll get a man to keep me."

Wednesday 29th
Eliz'th Higgins had a fit, we sent for Dr. Nathan
Ellen Holmes has had a slight sun stroke. Thro her hat
having blown off, whilst she was hanging out clothes.
Christina refused to go to school when her teachers asked her.
Mrs Goodlet ordered her to be locked up in the cottage, she
did not seem to care 'untill' [until] it was dark, she then
began to cry, at 9 oclk we took pity on her and liberated her,
as she beg'd so hard to be forgiven and promised to be a better girl.

Thursday Ellen Holmes has been quite delirious, great
pain in her head, she is however, much better
this even'g.

Friday Eliz'th Higgins tried to strangle herself, and attempted
29 to jump out of her bedroom window, and after
a desperate struggle with the women that were
holding her, she got away from them and ran
into the next bedroom, where poor Ellen Holmes
lay, and tried to jump through that window.
Miss G was then sent in the Tram for the Doctor
as we thought it was not safe to keep such a
maniac here, directly the Doctor saw her, he said
