Friday. December. 15th.
not well, and almost weiged
down, with vain endeavors to get a right and
fair division of labor. so many of the
inmates have lead idle lives outside, and its hard
work to get them in harness, have to run about
up stairs, and down stairs, urging and trying to
lead them on to their respective duties.

Saturday 16th.
a little girl ages 11 yrs. was brought to
the Refuge in charge of a Police man, from
Maitland, sent by Mrs Hill, who states that
she is past control, by her parents.
what to do, with such an infant, amongst 35!
inmates of bad character, is an enigma dificult
to solve. The spirit sinks, apalled, here are
young girls, not out of their teens! of them
have been habitual swearers, and filthy talkers, and there
is no means of punishing them,

Sabbath 17th
No Minister in the morn. Mr Roberts addressed them 11 o clk -
Revd R Sellars preached at 5 o clk and
Mr. Roseby adressed them in the eveg.
All but Clara Ferris, in attendance, she being poorly.
They looked better than usual. each wearing their clean
new collars presented to them by Mrs Goodlet.
