December 2nd Saturday.
Received a letter from Queensland
from Melinda giving a sad, sad account
of the death of Mrs. Anderson's only son, by drowning.

Lady Young called to say she had got £3.0.0 more towards gardening. and
proposed employing our Messenger 4 days
a week for three weeks. if he would take 5/-
p. day. if he would not, her ladyship wd. send
a man herself.

Monday 11th
Ten loads of manure was sent by
the Corperation for the garden - The inmates
carried most of it from the gate to the garden
we are to have two more, as soon as we can
make room.
Susan Johnson continues quarrelsome she has
to be removed from one department of labor to
another so [word underlined] often; Matron has been poorly
last week and unable to attend to her journal.
having so much extra work, through Miss Lloyds incapacity.
indeed, the work has pressed heavily upon her
this last four months.

Miss Galbraith [indecipherable] in the duties of
sub matron.
