November 27th
Monday.
Dr. Nathan visited Sarah Watson again last
Saturday, and gave an order for her admission
into the Infirmary. Matron took her, starting at
1/2 past 9 oclk. hoping to get back early. but had to
wait until 1/4 to 1 oclk, and then was told by
"house Surgeon" that Sarah could not be received, as they
had no room. thus the time is thrown away, returned
weary, faint and discouraged.
Received a note from Revd Thos, O Reilly reccommending
Mary McCaveney. and say that he himself would be
happy to subscribe to the funds of the Refuge.
This eveg whilst at prayers the husband came to speak
about her, he says he will most willingly pay for
her whilst she remains, that he hopes to be able to
get her another home in about three months. when
he will take her to Adelaide away from her wicked
companions. poor man, when he came home? from
his last trip (he is Cheif Officer) his house was
striped [underscored] f furniture and clothing. and debts incurred
besides. her poor little girl 4 years old he took to his
sister, at Balmain. the mother having neglected her so.

Tuesday 28th
This day has been one of trial, every order from
Miss Lloyd disobeyed. advised her to bring the most
refractory ones before the Comt. to try and check this
bad feeling.
Lady Young visited the garden & school. 5 of the
girls repeated hymns to her. after which her ladyship
explained the meaning.
Maria Duke demmanded to be let out, she cursed [word underlined] and
swore[word underlined] and when remonstrated with, said, well
you [word deleted] I did it on purpose that you might be obliged to let me out.
Elizth Smith made her escape over the wall.
