November 1st. Sir John & Lady Young & Miss Dalton visited us again
brought a box containing 5 pots with a varietie of creepers in pots [last 2 words crossed out] and a newly invented machine for wringing clothes, and after several attempts Sir John succeeded in screwing the clamps to the edge of one of the tubs in the laundry and with his own hands, commenced wringing. first a towel then a sheet, when Lady Young observed, "it may do very well for small things" the Matron replied, it will wring counterpanes,
Sir John said, bring one and let us try, it was brought and when folded to fit, the handle was turned in exellent style by Sir John, when Lady Young declared that the counterpane was fairly wrung and almost mangled
Her Ladyship thinks our "drought garden" is quite a wonder as there has been no rain ever since it was made.
When looking at the back yard, getting flaged accross, she said " in another twelve months you will have a palatial residence at this rate. they were pleased to see the inmates dining room had been whitewashed, by themselves too.
