September 20th
Wedensday.[Wednesday] Mrs. J. Smith brought some beautiful
moss rose trees. orange, [Figas?] [figs] , and ethiopian lillies, [lilies] towards stocking the garden. also violet roots,
and other flowers, she brought them in her Carraige.[carriage].
Sent Melinda & Christina to Mr Baptiste's with a note asking for the trees &c. which he promised, he was out, but his son promised to tell him.

Thursday 21st. Lady Young and Miss Dalton came to see
the garden they were pleased with the progress and improvement. her Ladyship
said she was delighted to see the old lumber yard getting cleared.
They visited the school and heard the girls
sing. and said she "hoped soon to have a nosegay
from the Refuge garden") It dont seem likely at present.
Revd. C.R. Ord [Orde] preached in the even. all the
inmates (31) attended.
Lady Young enquired if Mr Baptiste had sent us any trees. and expressed surprise and disappointment because he had not.

Friday 22nd. Deborah H. came with tears in her eyes to say
she found sewing hurt her eyes. and offered to "mangle
or anything." we put the poor creature in the mangle room with Emily. where she will hear hymns sang. and suitable conversation. andher eyes wont be so tried . she seems under deep conviction for sin.
