August 25th
Friday. Having just notices that Elizth. Strickland had a rash on the back of her hands, which she was continuously scratching ordered her to go with Matron to Mr Watson Chemist and he gave her a box of ointment and said she must wear gloves at nights whilst using it. Matron was glad to hear from the Chemists that it was not [underscored] infectious.

Saturday 26th Wrote in reply to Elizth Thompson's letter, Emily Turner is improved, and is so happy up in the morng. early cleaning her mangle room singing hymns & often expresses her gratitude for so comfortable a home.

Sabbath 27th We had no Minister today.
All in good health, very clean and orderly. we spent very pleasantly and we hope profitably in reading the 119 Psalm every other verse. singg [singing] and prayer.

Monday 28th Mr & Mrs Goodlet gave the inmates a most sumptuous treat tea, cake, biscuits, Oranges ( 6 doz) Bananas, appels [apples] besides Coffee &c in the eveng.
and after tea Revd. Thos Smith (although very unwell,) gave a treat with the Magic Lantern
Mrs [?] Pitt S. sent 24 hats for them, & as soon as they got to know about them they crowded around the parlor door begn. [begging] for them, three had to left [leave?] without as they are 27 inmates. gave them calico hoods instead.
