Wedensday [Wednesday] Melinda could not get up till after breakfast. sick headache again. Last evening Mr & Mrs Pratt (Chemist) gave the inmates a nice tea. Cake, Oranges &c. and afterwards shewed [showed] them the 'Magic Lantern'
Mrs Pratt was "delighted to see them look so happy"

Thursday 13th Mrs Hoskings brought sewing and promised more if we do it well, When she saw Mary Mitchell she said "I think I know you" after a little conversation she gave her 5/- another lady gave her 2/6 last Saturday. her case enlists great sympathy.

Friday 14th Mrs Price (a subscriber) visited the Refuge, after she had gone, Mary Mitchell said that was Mrs Price (the French Shop) George St. I used to be a good customer of hers [inserted] when I used to go to balls, concerts, and the Opera.
I have often paid her from 10 pounds to 15 pounds. for ribbons & Flowers &c. She asked the Matron if she would be allowed to go to a Pawn Shop in Lower George St. where she "had left her first wedding ring for a 1/- the Matron went with her at 6 oclk when we were by the Old Post Office. we met Mr Merill the "American Consul," he shook hands with her, spoke very kindly to her. we had to go a second time about the ring because the man said he could not find it.
