Addition to p.83

In April 1881 James Hassall held a service in a barn on the property of Mrs McEwan at
Riverview, Moggill Ferry. This was the second such service held in this place and many people
attended, grateful that they did not have to travel the long distance to services in either Brisbane
or Ipswich. These services were used to judge whether there were enough interested people to
form a permanent congregation and ultimately to build a church in Moggill.*

Later in 1888 he attended a meeting held in the Wesleyan Church at Indooroopilly which
considered the possibilty of erecting a Chruch of England. It was resolved that the church
should be built on a quarter acre of land offered by Mr. G. I. Hart. Some residents of Fig Tree
Pocket had already raised money expecting a new church to be built in their area, but with the
decision to build in Indooroopilly, it was decided that the donations given by the Fig Tree Pocket
residents would be returned to them. J.S. Hassall was elected to the committee to oversee the
new church**

Addition to p.83

James Hassall displayed some interest in supporting other Protestant churches in his district
when, as it was reported in The Week of 26 January 1889, he pronounced the benediction at the
service for the laying of the foundation stone for a new Presbyterian Church in Sherwood.
