Addition to p.81

In 1879 in the Queensland Government Gazette for 1879, it was noted that Reverend J.S.
Hassall of Oxley Run or Farm, was issued with a new brand for his cattle and horses: OIY

Addition to p.81

Reverend J.S. Hassall's removal from the Northern Districts to Brisbane was gazetted on
3 September 1873. His removal from Brisbane to Ipswich was gazetted on 18 August 1875 and
his removal from Ipswich to Oxley was gazetted on 2 March 1877.

Addition to p.81

In July 1876 James Hassall moved to Oxley on his appointment to the church there. In The Week
newspaper for 1 July 1876 it was reported that as a result

''...the Church of England, which has been shamefully neglected since Mr Boyd left the
district, has been washed and cleaned, and a new life put into its members. It is to be
hoped that it is the forerunner of a better state of spiritual exsistence. The Sunday school
is to be again opened. In Mr Boyd's time it numbered seventy children; and I do not
think there has been a Sunday school held for the past two years''.

Some improvement must have been evident in the district because on 15 July The Week reported
that ''the attendance at the Oxley West Church of England last Sunday was very large: the Rev.
Mr Hassall officiated''.
