to that good man Mr Smith: and I think
he himself would prefer that to the sea.
Was he to keep to the sea and act prudently
& carefully I think he would be likely to get
on faster, and make more for himself in a a
temporal point of view; but I feel quite averse
to his taking to the Sea from the reasons I have
stated in my last to you: and I think the other
step would be likely to prove more for his
real interest in the end. However I fear the
expence attending that step will be greater
than I on my own private account will be able
to meet; but indeed I think the Missionary
Society should contribute, at least in part,
to the defraying of such expence: From the
account I have had of Mr Smith & the character
he sustains I am much inclined to think he
would be willing to take him on as moderate &
reasonable terms as possible. I trust the
Lord, to whose provides the care guidance & protection I commit
& commend him, will direct his way, and dispose
of him in his all wise Providence as may
be most for his real good. I doubt not but
you will be ready on all occasions to give him the
best advice you are capable of, and render him any
kind offices in your power. He is steady, & I hope

[292]
will attend to the advice of his friends; and that
he will not neglect the means of grace.
I am glad you have got a turn of mind for Sunday
School keeping etc; it is some thing a kin to
missionary work. Indeed I think you seem to
being to imbibe something of a missionary spirit.
May the Lord abundantly increase it! Perhaps
you may yet see it yourduy to engage in missionary
work. I double not but your good Father dedicated
you to it in your infancy; but where am
I going? Please to give my Christian
love to him and your valuable mother
and remember me affectionately to your
sisters and brothers. Wishing you
and them every needful blessing for this
world and the next.
I remain most sincerely & affectionately yours
W Henry
Mrs Henry desires her kind love to you all.
