My Dear Friend and Truest Brother in Xst.
Grace, Mercy, and Peace be unto you
from the Father and Him! I hope this
will find you happy among your friends
in the highly favoured Land that gave you
Birth, enjoying every needful blessing
both spiritual & temporal.
Your most welcome letter from Batavia
reached me in August last. On casting
my eyes upon its date, I was filled with
surprise, as little expecting to receive
a letter from that place, particularlay
from you who I imagined was gone
staight round Cape Horn; and on looking
over its contents as led to admire that
mysterious providence that led you thither
when you got acquaint with, & enjoyed the
conversation & fellowship of some of the
dear servants of our Common Lord the miss
ionaries: and I am strongly included to think
that it will appear to you ultimately that it
was for some important purpose you
were brought there; and that you will have
cause to say in referenc to that very event
"God moves a mysterious way,
His wonders to perform."
In your last letter to me from the Colony when
you were about leaving it for England you gave me
