attention in hearing the word. We found
in several Districts little Societies
professing Christianity, who meet twice
on the Sabbath, and on other days for
Christian worship, and also keep up
family & private exercises of devotion.
By these societies we were received joyfully,
welcomed as their Teachers, and treated with
much kindness & respect. The [original crossed out]
eagerness they manifested to receive [original crossed out]
instruction, and affection in hearing the
word rendered the exercise of preaching to
& instructing them as small pleasure.
How was my spirit melted, and what
emotions of joy & thankfulness did I feel
on entering the first of the little Chapels
or places of Christian worship we came to and soon
seeing it filled with attentive hearers! And
also when I have retired for my own private
devotions among the Bushes to over hear
these people in different directions at
their private devotions, calling upon the
true God through the Mediator. Is there
not reason to hope that some of them are
Spiritual worshipers tho' the subjects of a much remaining
