Besides objects of a political nature, I think
one principal and he had in view in taking
the late journey was to promote the downfall
of superstition & idolatry on this Island, and
to make converts to Christianity. I shall
enclose to you a note I recd from him a few
days ago with the trnalsation (though his
writing will be no curiosity to you) as it is
neatly written, and shows in some measure
above to be his object. The Islands
around us are literally calling to us to
"Come over & help them". We could
divide & form two missions were it not
for the vessel we have in hand preventing it.
There is much need of more missionaries
her for there are at least four of these Islands
where missions ought to be established.

This Morning Captn Campbell arrived
here from the Marqueses on his way to the
colony, and as he intends only to take on
water here I must hasten to close this
having a number of other letters to write.
Indeed I am ashamed to send it, being so
badly written with a bad pen & bad ink; but
I can't take time to write it again and must
send it as it is
