Raining last night & wet today.
In morning more squad drill
to get on our nerves. Afternoon off.
Nugget Bennetts Trial. Howard gone
to get his medal. Newspapers report
King George under fire in France.
Pictures at La Gorgne in evening.
[N.Z.] Artillery moving in Somme direction.
[Centre] 18 Friday
Went to the Dentist in morning
at No.1 Clearing Hospital in same
village. Squad drilled in afternoon
to our dislike. Aeroplanes daily
flying over Estaines. Out for tea
as usual after 5.30. Rumours
that 22,000 tommies arrive Sunday
not very pleasing to the inhabitants.
Raining hard.
[Centre] 19 Saturday
Still raining. Used my head &
got swell job sweeping mess room
3 times a day. off drill. Letters and
down to 3 a day each of 2 pages.
Rumours that Tommies arrive
tomorrow.
[Centre] 20 Sunday - 9th after Trinity
Raining yet. Heard from Eng. Church
Parade Y.M.C.A. Sweeping job
still good. Bells chiming. Every body
seems to go to church. Kit inspection
22,00 tommies arriving from Somme.
[Merry] lot although they lost heavily.
