I very deeply deplore the death of DeWitt S. Morgan.

He was a man of high ideals and high purpose. He administered the problems of our public schools with sincere understanding and untiring energy. His broad vision and sound planning are reflected in the high standards attained by the educational system of Indianapolis. He devoted his life to the development of young men and women, teaching them to respect industry, to form habits of right thinking and to have confidence in the future and faith in America.

In his untimely passing this community has suffered the loss of a strong, honorable and useful citizen and an educator of unusual capacity and outstanding ability. The services he rendered to the schools of Indianapolis will long be an influence for good in this city and future generations of our children will receive the benefits of his labor and ability.

I mourn the loss of a friend for whom I had great affection and admiration.

President, Indianapolis Board of School Commissioners.
