The 708th session of “The Association” was
held at the beautiful home of Eliz. C. Davis which
may be admired for its latter day comforts, and
its many unique specimens of old furniture
and ornaments. Guests were Pattie Farquhar
Anna M. Farquhar, Florence M. Wetherald, Elsie E.
Stabler, Helen W. Moore and Bessie(?) Johnson.

The sentiment was from Byron, we believe
the first instance wherein the Asso. has thus
honored that source – “Always laugh when you
can; it is a cheap medicine. Merriment is a
philosophy not well understood. It is the
sunnyside of existence.”

Ellen Farquhar read from “The Rural New Yorker”
some excellent advice by “The Hope Farm Man”, H.
W. Collinswood who has broken all records, apparently,
except that of a colored woman in S. Carolina, - she
adopted and has nearly raised more than 25 children.

Mr. Collinswood has none of his own, but there
are 10 who call him “Father” and his wife “Mother”,
some are in college, others only a few years old &
the family relations must be beautiful.

In speaking of the holidays just passed, he says,
“I think we may well carry a little of the Christmas
spirit into every day of the year. One trouble with
this old world is, we fail to do this, and thus make
charity and good will, like our best clothes, or like
church behavior, things to get off as quickly as possible
in every-day work.” Mary T. Bond gave extracts
from Hazlitt and Burke upon the character of
George Fox. The former says he was especially noteworthy
for “a manly simplicity and noble disinterestedness
of feeling”, and adds “He was superior
to every kind of jealousy, suspicion, or malevolence,
