Don’t hunt after trouble, but look for success;

A beautiful moral was drawn from the story of
a poor Russian mother who skillfully arranged the
loom and the shuttle at night, with the remark “My
daughter will weave to-morrow,” hence the parent’s loving
care lest the threads tangle and break in younger hands
that must complete the unfinished task.

A good deal of experience in saving cabbage for
winter use was given; in response to a question
we learned that there were several ways of sheltering
it, different, but apparently, equally successful.
Election Day was said to be the only proper time
to pull up the heads, and we query how this
date may be determined that Autumn when there
is no election!

Mary C. Brooke entertained us most agreeably
with an account of her recent visit to Edison
and his studio. The latter contains many
curiosities, - she described a huge cube of copper
donated in recognition of his immense service
to those who mine that article, because electric
machines have so increased its use. Although
extremely hard of hearing, Mr. Edison could
understand much that she said to him, as
she spoke slowly. He told her his father had
lived to 97 yrs. of age and when he was 80 he
had thoroughly enjoyed a trip abroad, “in company
with a young fellow of 70.” M. C. B. then amused
us all with her experience in posing, and
