Pursuant to a Comission from the Superior Court of Chancery for the Winchester Dist directed to any two Justices
of the Peace in County of Pittsylvania. and agreably to a Notice duly
proven. We Stockley Turner and William H. Shelton two of the
Justices of the peace in the Court aforesaid have Assembled Our
selves at the Mansion House of Joseph Hill in the County aforesaid
on this 16th day of October 1826. between sun rise & the setting
thereof. and delegently examined Joseph Hill, Joseph
Chaney Senr. Joshua Dodson, & Caleb Dodson Senr. Witnesses.
in behalf of Nathan Skinner in Certain Matter of Controversy.
Now defending in the Superior Court of Chancery, directed to
be holden at Winchester, in the County of Federick Va.
Wherein the said Nathan Skinner is defendant and James
Monroe is plaintiff

The Dept. Joseph Hill being duly sworn says that
he has every natural reason to believe himself to be the eldest
son of the late Thomas Hill formerly of Loudoun County Va.
& is the same Joseph Hill who some few years past attended
as a Witness for sd. Skinner and Was admitted by those
Concerned to be the son of sd Tho Hill & to be one of
the persons under Whom Nathan Skinner holds his
title to the Tract of Land in the County of Loundoun Va.

This deponant has been on the said land when in Loudoun
as aforesaid. he Knows It to be the same Tract his
father sold during his Own Life. (Thos. Hill?) This deponants
Life & his Brother Reubins. agreably, as respect the sale
to Information he received from his father
& further this Depot says not.

The Deponents Joseph Chaney Senr. Joshua Dodson
and Caleb Dodson Senr. being duly sworn severaly sayeth
they have Known Joseph Hill. the first Deponent from
his boyhood. he has ever been Called the son of Thomas
Hill formerly of Loudoun County Va. they all lived many
years neighbours to him - (said Thomas Hill) he raised and Called
the said Joseph his son. -- the said Deponant have all heard
the said Thomas Hill often speak of having Lived in
Loudoun County Va. and two of the Depotee. Chaney & J. Dodsons
have often heard him (sd Tho Hill) say that he had sold
his Land in Loudoun aft. for & dureing the Lives of himself,
his son Joseph (the 1st Dept) and his son Reubein. and
further these Deponants sayeth not
