"North Sea" Wreck of
Sir, 14th Sept 1859.
With reference to my letter of the 14 " July last acquainting
you that the enquiry respecting the loss of the "North Sea"
had been adjourned to some day in August to afford
time for the return from Cronstadt of Mr Benz Bec who
was mate of the said vessel at the time the accident happened
I beg to acquaint you that the hearing was resumed yesterday.
a fair report of which is in the annexed sheet of the
"Hull Advertiser" of to days' date _ together with the decision
of the Court, viz
The return to Capt Kruger of his Certificate and of the
retention and transmission of the Certificate of the
Mate Mr Bec _ to the Board of Trade _ with the Report of
the Magistrate.
I summoned two men to attend on the occasion
viz Thomas Steele the steersman that he might be
questioned by Mr Bec, and George Petch who was on the bridge
with the Mate when the Vessel went on shore and who
had not been examined at the first hearing.
These men have been detained at some expense which
I will bring under consideration in ' another Report

Mr Milne (respecting a Spar.) 3 Oct 1859.
Dear Mr Milne.
Have the goodness immediately to see the man who carted
the spar in respect of which 5s/_ is charged.
Say to him that he is putting me to great inconvenience
and request him to sign the accompanying receipt and
return it to me by the first Post _ should he be dissatisfied
