We are always moved by our instincts, or some development thereof. Man's main instincts are, or centre about,

THE FOOD INSTINCT

THE REPRODUCTIVE INSTINCT.

To the former is to be referred all dealing exclusively with the physical world. To the latter all dealings with the psychical world.

In the first line we have sciences which inquire how one ought to act to produce immediate gratification. Such is gastronomy.

But instincts hardly act unmixed and there are some of man's wants and purposes not obviously classifiable under either head. Such are his five needs of

clothes
houses
wealth
travel
play
