ground and every one was out for a good time.
There was something doing all the time and the
time honoured three ringed circus was beaten in
a thousand ways. Several clowns added to the
amusement of the day and a "darkey", after
losing a mule race caused much merriment by
stating that his mule came from Palestine & con-
sequently would not work on Saturdays. Our
Btt. representatives did fairly well but were out-
classed in the majority of their events. Weather fine. RBO'S

do 16 Church Parades in the morning. The Padre of the
85th conducted the service for the 38th and had just
struck his stride in what promised to be an hour's
sermon, when the heavens opened and a liquid
barrage produced "God save the King" and the order
was given. "Sauve qui peut." Some of the congrega-
tion are still wondering what the Padre meant by
an "immature grave." Lt. Col. H.C. SPARLING. D.S.O.
came to the Batt. in the afternoon. Sports were
held in the afternoon, the weather turning fine
