Sheet Three 38th CANADIAN INFANTRY BATTALION.

26th (contd.) Sector on April 26th.

Lozingham 27th to 31st
Training arrangements of this period have been a continuation of previous two weeks
practice of open warfare tactics with daily lectures on the part of N.C.Os. and junior
Officers instruction patrols, map reading, and compass work, and employment of
specialists. Officers have made daily reconnaissance of the defense schemes on this
front. A day of field and track events, and transport contests, was held on May 30th.
Training period eaach day has been from 7.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., with contests each afternoon
in baseball and baseball leagues.
On the morning of May 28th while Battalion was moving into training field, one shell from
enemy artillery caused 23 casualties - 6 killed and 17 wounded, while Companies were moving
in column of fours. The weather in this period has been clear and warm, and most favourable for
training purposes.
