were urged to impress on their N.C.O.'s the inadvisability
of having any pals among the Privates, as this
suborned discipline, and no officer or N.C.O.
could win the respect of his subordinates by sac-
rificing discipline on the altar of friendship.
In this connection the C.O. impressed on his officers,
that he wanted them to understand, that though
he would not countenance any dereliction of
Duty, he wished them also to realize that he
was always approachable and did not desire
to feel that his presence acted as a wet blanket
in their moments of mutual social intercourse.
Weather:-- Milk, but heavy fog all day until 9. pm RBO'S
do 28 Batt. carrying on. Weather quite springlike. RBO'S
do 29 31. Re inforcements paraded before Paymaster & M.O.
and assigned to Companies. Batt. carrying on.
Weather:-- Hard frost in morning. Quite warm at
noon. Daisies in bloom in the fields. RBO'S
do 30 As per Oper. Order. no 7: Batt. moved from the
CHATEAU in the morning, had the noon meal
and also supper were served at SOUCHEZ.
The reief of the 54th Batt. was accomplished
