were seen in the vicinity and their products piled
on wharves constructed on the banks fo the canal.
Passing through St. VENANT, our Canadian boys had an
opportunity of sizing up our Allies, the Portuguese, who
have a Headquarters in this town and a large number
of soldiers. Comments were freely made, after
marching "At Ease" was resumed & they were
not all complimentary. After a good march, the
village of LOZINGHEM was reached about noon,
billets were allotted and the noon day meal

LOZINGHEM 20 The day's work commenced with the men in good
spirits and well satisfied with their billets. Though
nothing officially was known, it was generally under-
stood that unless a special cause arose, a stay
of perhaps a couple of weeks would be enjoyed.
