Front Lines 1917 Sep 14 cont.
heavy A.A. fire.
The Enemy's artillery was extremely quiet on frontage
of this Batt. A few shells were directed to craters
at N.26.a.15.00. and scattered shelling of rear areas.
Their Trench Mortar activity was below normal,
consisting of light shelling of AVION and the Right Flank
of ELEU Trench. Their Machine Guns were quiet
except for some actitiy from near junction of ELK,
Sap and Railway Embankment.- A few Snipers'
shots came from CITE DU NORD. Their aircraft were
active several enemy aeroplanes crossing our lines
during the afternoon.
Report on Works and Movement of Enemy:-
Enemy waggons were heard at N.27.b.7.7. at 8.15 pm.
Two men were at work with picks at N.27.d.5.8.
Four enemy sentries were observed behind railway
at N.33.a.65.65. to 50.35. Two of enemy were seen
at 11.15 am at N.33.a.6.5. At SALINE TRENCH, N.33.a.6.5.
two square 30" boards were waved above parapet.
Moved sideways and downwards from Left to Right.
This was carried on at different times around
mid-day. The activity of enemy mortars and
