Front Line 1917 Sep 13 cont
day. There was enemy fire on LA COULOTTE this afternoon
evidently registration on gun pits under construction.
Enemy Trench Mortars were active in AVION are both
light and heavy trench mortars being busy during
the night, with occasional fire during the day.
Various parts of our front line area were swept up
hostile machine guns at 4.00 am to 5.30 am.
One enemy aeroplane crossed over both front and support
lines at 7.00 am, while four patrolled our front line
at 5.30. am. Enemy Transport was heard
on roads in this area from 8.00 to 9.00 pm and from
9.30 to 10.00 pm also movement of Light Railway cars,
an enemy working party was heard hammering and
using lumber at N.33.a.7.5. from 8.00 to 10.00 pm
From 11.00 to 11.30 am Enemy Party of three wearing
black caps of wedge shape, similar to R.F.C. dress, were
observing effect of trench mortar fire from N.33.a.6.5.
On being fired at by our snipers, they continued ob-
servation with the use of a periscope. New wire
is in evidence at N.27.a.9.7. Much movement was
visible during the day at N.27.b.2.9. and at N.21.d.9.3. RBO'S
