sing fire during the night, and also shelling GREEN
CRASSIER, CITE ST. ANTOINE and CITE DU NORD throughout the
day. The area of N.20.c. was bombarded at 11.25 pm
in conjunction with gas projection. Some counter-
battery work was engaged in during the day. Field
Artillery fired on suspected enemy machine gun
emplacement at N.27.a.10.20. Medium and
Heavy Trench Mortars bombarded N.33.a.7.5., N.27.c.6.0.
and N.33.b.6.4. at intervals, about 100 rounds in all
Vickers guns directed the usual night firing on
enemy communications. Lewis Guns intermittently
active during the day. No 261146 Pte. E. Joines
and No. 144051 Lte. L. Beaulieu, snipers, fired on enemy
sentries at N.33.a.50.45, two hits being observed. Our
snipers were active throughout the day, while front line
garrison directed a large amount of rifle fire on
enemy lines. Our aircraft activity has been nor-
mal but with considerable activity this afternoon.
ENEMY artillery was more active than on preceding
day. Light shelling of our Left Company front followed
gas projection at Midnight. Considerable fire from
5.9 and 4.2 guns on AVION for thirty minutes at
12.30 am Scattered shelling of AVION area during the
