Front Line 1917 Sept 12 cont
in area of T.2.b.8.9. and LENS-ARRAS ROAD between LA
COULOTTE and ELEU DIT LEAUVETTE. There was some scattered
shelling during the night on AVION, OLUMBIA C.T. and ACCESS
Trench in front of SASKATOON ROAD. The enemy shelled
AVION with heavy and light Trench Mortars for one hour
at midnight, which bombardment was continued
at intervals between 300 and 7.00 o'clock this morning.
Some Trench Mortar fire was also directed to LENS-
ARRAS Road near junction of HAMILTON Road. There
was considerable firing during the night by enemy
Machine Guns on ELEU Trench one gun firing from
about N.20.d.5.2. There was also a machine gun
firing from Left of GREEN CRASSIER,sweeping our left
front and LENS-ARRAS ROAD. In the forenoon
several enemy aeroplanes crocsed our line, one
coming as far back as LA COULOTTE, flying very low.
Between 11.10 and 11.35 pm enemy fired a number
of double RED flares, but nothing unusual followed.
Between 9.30 and 11.00 pm, enemy waggons were
heard at intervals, apparently about N.27. Central
or N.27.d.75.75 and again at same location about 5.10 am
