War Diary for the month of October 1916

Place -- Date -- Hour -- Summary of Events and Information Remarks and references to Appendices

Front Line 1917 Aug 26 cont.
The Trench running from where I observed this sentry
to the house at the foot of the Embankment at N.27.c.70.60
appeared to be used, as does also the area between the
two embankments at this point. I returned through
the woods and came out by AVION Church, seeing no other
evidence of the enemy. A Listening Post which
has been established on our AVION front at N.33.a.90.60.
are quite satisfied that the enemy has no post in front
of his wire along the TORONTO Road, but several loose patrols
were seen inside his front line of wire. The enemy
wire from Railway Embankment at N.33.a.45.35 to N.37.
c.6.3. is very strong with the exception of a gap at slope
of Railway at N.33.a.40.35. This wire is four posts deep
practically all along, and in addition wires are at-
tached to the trees in front of AVION CHURCH. Considerable
damage has been done to the wire, clost to the RED CHATEAU
but gaps have been repaired.
The usual protective patrols were out last night, but
these had nothing to report.
Summary of Intelligence
From 9 pm August 25th to 9 pm August 26th 1917.
Our artillery activity was normal, with the usual
harassing fire during the night on enemy communi-
cations and rear areas, with heavy counter battery
