from GREEN CRASSIER, but was able to observe ground to
the bridge pier at foot of CRASSIER at junction of
Railway and Canal. N.26.a.9.9.
INTELLIGENCE GAINED:- "A ridge on bank of Canal
runs from LENS-ARRAS Road at N.25.b.8.6. through to
Railway pier at N.26.a.9.9. Troops could easily use
this to get access to the Railway pier or in the case of
another attack on the GREEN CRASSIER a Lewis Gun
and Snipers could go along this bank and take a
position within one hundred yards of Railway Pier
an could stop any of the enemy using the CRASSIER
slope to counter-attack, at the same time fearing
nothing from enemy snipers or bombers. In the
even of the CRASSIER being in our hands, this route
would give us access to railway embankment across
inundated land."
Report of daylight Patrol carried out by Lieut. Col.
R. H. Webb on afternoon of August 25th.
"Starting point N.32.a.8.2., crossed the water at this
point followed along on opposite side to N.32.b.40.100.
The road at the latter point is well above the water,
dry and practically intact. From this road to where
DOLPHIN ROAD crosses into AVION, the ruins are out of the
