At 7.30 pm conditions had quieted down, very little artil-
lery fire being noticed.

P.S. The work of Lieut. A. F. Menzies, M.C. both in gaining
information and using a machine (Lewis) Gun this after-

Batt. in Front Line as per Operation Order 93.
From 9 pm Aug 23rd to 9pm Aug. 24, 1917. Summary of In-
telligence.
Our Artillery activity consisted of intermittent shelling
of GREEN CRASSIER, CITE DU NORD and RAILWAY Embankment
from N.27.0.8.0. to rear of CITE StANTOINE. At 9.35 pm
Field Artillery placed a light barrage from N.35.b.4.4. to
N.20.1.9. The usual counter battery work was engaged
in during the day. Our Stokes and Medium Trench
Mortars bombed area of RED CHATEAU grounds and SALINE
trench throughout the night. Our Vickers guns directed
heavy barrage fire on entire enemy front line system
at 9.30 pm. Heavy Lewis Gun fire at intervals in the
