of N.20.c.80.20 behind the railway tracks. About 10 o'clock
one man was noticed walking aimlessly on the top of the
CRASSIER about N.20.c.95.90. He disappeared into the ground,
later reappeared with two more, one being bandaged. They
appeared to wear our helmets, but wore apparently also
full packs. These men were not fired upon by either the
enemy or ourselves. At intervals from 10 o'clock until
12.30 pm, a few Bosches were seen on the southern
slope of the CRASSIER in the neighbourhood of the broken
bridge, and several were shot in this vicinity, and con-
ditions still appeared uncertain as to who held the
command of the CRASSIER. About 3 pm a large
party of the enemy was noticed to concentrate about
N.20.c.80.50. reported roughly about two hundred
strong, and activity appeared to be against Puits? 4.
Fosse StLEWIS. At 4.10 pm enemy were seen
in three parties of about twenty, sixty, and forty. He
has moved into trench with two machine guns at
N.20.c.95.80 to N.20.c.90.05 and N.20.d.50.50.
Sergt. H. Lee opened fire with Lewis guns getting six,
then shot another with his rifle. Major Saltmarch
reports enemy has six unwounded carrying two wounded
