Front Line 1917 Aug 22 cont
10.00 am for a short distance, but were heavily engaged
by our machine Guns. Five observation Balloons were up
on this Front. At 9.00 pm and 4. pm signal for
hostile artillery to open was GREEN flares answered by
GOLDEN RAIN rockets. An enemy carrying party,
with what appeared to be shells, was observed moving from
N.28.c.5.7. to N.28.d.4.7. One of our listening posts heard
a ration ?ber deliver its load at N.27.c.7.2. at mid-
night coming to this point via the TORONTO ROAD.
The road running from N.27.c.25.20 to N.27.d.4.8. is used
by the enemy at night for both traffic and carrying par-
ties & should be the subject of harassing fire. An
enemy observation post is suspected at N.20c.33.38.
and a communication trench runs from same along
slope of railway embarkment, along bridge NORTH
of GREEN CRASSIER. An enemy working party was
observed this forenoon at N.26.C.4.9. and was fired
on by Lewis Guns. RBO'S
23 Batt. in Front Line as per Oper. Order 93.
Our Batt. frontage was covered during the night by pro-
tective patrols, none of whom encountered any enemy
patrols or obsered any hostile movement.
