The activity of our Machine guns was below normal. Lewis
Guns firing on selected targets and approaches to enemy
positions, while Vickers Guns gave attention to rear areas.
No definite targets were offered for our Snipers, but considera-
ble practice shooting was carried on. Conditions for
aircraft observation were good, and patrolling and ar-
tillery observation were active all day.
Enemy artillery has been very active on both Front & Support
lines. ELEU TRENCH, SASKATOON ROAD and COLUMBIA TRENCH were
heavily shelled between 9.00 and 10.00 pm with 4.2's
and 5.9's. This fire appeared to come from the direction
of SALAMINES. Our AVION front was heavily shelled between
4.00 and 5.00 A.M. During the day there was considerable
hostile fire on communication trenches and support
trenches as far as the RED LINE. Practically no Gas
shells were observed. About eighty enemy Trench
Morter shells were directed on ELEU TRENCHES about
midnight, while at 3.00 a.m. and 3.45 am SULLIVAN
TRENCH near Railway was bombarded. There was some
Trench Mortar fire this afternoon towards N.33.c.10.82.
The work of the Enemy Machine Guns was below normal
on our Trenches, but very active against our aeroplanes.
One Machine Gun was firing from N.27.b.5.3.
Enemy aeroplanes crossed our lines at 6.00 am and
