of debris into an upper room. Sounds were heard in
the cellar of the building and observation revealed a
sentry in the room below on the ground floor. Evidently
this enemy party comprised a day sentry group and us
our patrol did not have bombs, they withdrew without
being seen. At the southwest corner of the RED CHA-
TEAU, there are about twenty five rows of concertina
barbed wire and iron stakes in readiness for making
repairs to enemy wire. Seemingly, very little watch
is being kept by the enemy sentry, as the patrol left the
building went across SALINE TRENCH and through the
wire without being fired on.
