Front Line 1917 Aug 12 cont.
N.33.a.45.25. It is suspected that there is a machine gun
in red brick at N.26.b.50.75.

Between 10 am and 2 pm today, a patrol consisting of
no. 541240 Sergt. Landon H.W. and no. 724053. Pte. O'Toole. D.
reconnoitred enemy area in the vicinity of the CHATEAU
at N.33.a.5.7. Leaving AVION TRENCH the patrol entered
SALINE TRENCH at N.33.a.35.75. traversing one hundred yards
on either side of this point. This Trench, as well as SALLOW
TRENCH, are merely ditches, varying from one to four feet in
depth, and is in a poor state of repair. The pressence of small
piles of stick bombs in good condition and laid ready for
use, indicates that these trenches were probably used at
night. To the right at N.33.a.5.5. the trenches are in
better condition and are occupied by a day sentry. From
SALINE TRENCH the patrol advanced to the RED CHATEAU at N.33.
a.50.70. entering it from the Southwest corner over a heap
