Front Line 1917 Aug 10 cont.
Granattenwerfer gun fire is reported from N.32.d.3.4.
N.26.b.05.95 and N.26.b.70.45. Enemy Machine Gun
fire was below normal, with occasional sweeping of
front line and area of COLUMBIA C.T. with bursts of fire.
Hostile eroplanes were active, also many observation bal-
loons. Our lines were crossed frequently during the day
by enemy machines. Two enemy searchlights were
observed in N.28.b. Also in LENS. at 2 am many orange
and red flares were fired. hostile field artillery firing
on our front line immediately after. Much enemy move-
ment was observed around N..21.d.75.80. Men carrying
building material. In the area of the railway track at
N.28.c.3.8. There are judged to be dug-outs as men are
seen going and coming frequently. At 9 am, 8 men
working party carrying tools, walking south, disap-
peared behind the ruins at N.27.b.5.2. At 7 am four
