Front Line 1917 Aug 10 cont.
directed on enemy front during the night for the purpose
of preventing work on enemy wire, while Brigade Machine
Guns carried on the usual fire on hostile communications.
Our aircraft were active during the day on reconnaisance and
artilery observation. We projected about one hundred
and twnety cylinders of gas into enemy area at
N.33.a. an b. at 2.30 am. The enemy's artillery
was active during the night and this afternoon, but
there was little firing hwen observation was available
this afternoon. In retaliation to our gas projection and
barrge, hostile artillery having shelled our front and
support lines about 3 a.m. Back areas, especially
LA COULOTTE were engaged by heavy guns in the forenoon.
Our front line from N.26.c.6.8. to N.25.b.8.5. was fired on
by enemy trench mortars throughout the night also
new SULLIVAN Trench and the area of AVION CHURCH
