Front Line 1917 Aug 3 cont.
on our Front and Support Lines along the entire Battalion
frontage and on Columbia C.T. from the SASKATOON
ROAD to the LENS-ARRAS RD. with considerable fire at the
same time on LA COULOTTE, ELEU DIT LEAUVETTE, AVION and the
LENS-ARRAS RD. The shells used were 5.9's, 4.2's & 77 Mn
and came from the direction of COTE ST. ANTOINE, SALUMINES
and MERICOURT. From this direction of COTE ST ANTOINE. the
left half of our frontage, including SASKATOON RD and
the new trench running intermittently. Hostile Trench
Mortar fire was agian above normal, being placed chiefly
on AVOIN from the direction of Fosse 4. and the Railway
Embankment. From N.20.c.90.15., N.26.b.7.4. and
N.36.b.6.5., machine guns swept our front line trenches.
This fire of the enemy being also above norml. There
was no enemy aerial activity. There were indications
