Front Line 1917 Aug 2 cont.
artillery shelled AVION for ten minutes, the fire ceasing on
a number of reen and orange flares being fired.
Heavy explosions were heard at 6 pm at N.37.b.1.7. at
5 pm a large column of smoke rose from N.28.a.5.7.
Early this morning several enemy parties of three & four
men were seen entering or leaving cellar or dugout at
N.27.a.90.75. There was some movement here during the
day & it is presumed that this point is a "Headquarter's
Hostile Trench Mortars have been located firing from the
Tunnel entrance at N.27.c.85.15. and N.33.a.8.9.

The following information was gained by reconoitring parties
in the area of our left front. N.27.c.7.2. Bridge over
which railway crosses road, aêars to be reinforced
concrete about 25 feet span, supported at either
end by a concrete and brick wall, apparently ony
slightly damaged by shell fire.
