Front Line 1917 Aug 1 cont.
movement activity was noticed at the Tunnel entrance
at N.27.c.85.15. This afternoon earth was seen being
thrown out of this entrance. This afternoon transport
was observed moving at N.21.c.4.7. going northwest.
at 3.45 pm seven men were seen walking from house
at N.27.a.8.8. to N.27.b.0.6. Enemy signals were
observed. Shortly after midnight one double green flare
was discharged at about N.20.b. which was followed
by heavy hostile artillery and machine gun fire. A
little later a red light was observed at N.20.d.9.1.
which burned for three hours. During the evening
we observed a fire in LENS at about N.20.b. AT 6
o'clock this afternoon a large explosion occured
in rear of LENS CHURCH at N.21.a.2.9. debris being
thrown to a height of 75 feet. An enemy patrol of
six men was observed by our posts about midnight
