front line. Unfavourable weather conditions interfered
wtih aircraft observation. Hostie artillery was
more active than in the preceding 24 hours, especially
in our back areas LA COULOTTE, LENS-ARRAS ROAD, the
GIVENCHY - LA COULOTTE ROAD being shelled at frequent
intervals, with some fire also directed on ELEU DIT
LEAUVETTE and AVION. The following points received
particular attention N.31.a.9.2. N.32.d.9.8. N.31.b.9.3.
N.25.c.4.7. N.39.a.8.2 N.25.b.8.1. N.25.d.6.8. A large
number of gas shells were directed during the night
to our line in AVION, also the vicinity of LA COULOTTE
and the Brewery. During the night there was some
hostile Trench Mortar fire in area of our right company
while at noon today, the civinicty of craters at N.25.
b.9.1. was bombarded. Enemy machine guns
showed very little activity. Considerable enemy
